The Mustangs captured their fourth win of the season on Saturday afternoon after they defeated Sul Ross State University in convincing fashion, 114-86. Every Mustang was able to score except for Justin Williams (Phoenix, AZ/Paradise Valley High School) (Phoenix, AZ), but he made up for it with his five assists and three steals.
Six WNMU players posted double-digits. Steve Berrelleza (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe High School) (Phoenix, AZ) led the crowd with 21 points, going 4-for-7 from downtown. He also recorded a team high seven steals and five assists in his 24 short minutes of play.
JJ Galberth (El Paso, TX/Parkland High School) (El Paso, TX) finished with 17 points, and DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ/Glendale High School) (Glendale, AZ) and Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ/Santa Rita High School) (Tucson, AZ) followed with 16 apiece.
Sul Ross tied the game only once at 2-2. The Mustangs then took charge with a 16-3 run over the next six minutes. The largest purple and gold advantage of the first half came with five seconds remaining after a Dennis Booth (Grand Canyon, AZ/Grand Canyon High School) (Grand Canyon, AZ) shot in the paint. WNMU walked into the locker room with a smile and a 55-28 lead.
Things continued to go the Mustangs' way as the lead grew to as many as 35 in the second half, partly due to Kyler Garrison (Farmington, NM/Piedra Vista High School)'s (Farmington, AZ) hot hand as he sunk ten points in just five minutes on the court.
As a team, WNMU shot 56.8 percent from the floor and 47.8 percent from behind the arc.
